dun wanna be fugly anymore
Today I'm reminded why I haven't been to orchard shopping on a Saturday for a lOOoog time. The reason - the crowd.
As I made my way from Orchard Mrt to Taka, I took the underpass way thru wisma.. you know that long stretch of shops and that big cylindrical aquarium that pops out in the middle of nowhere. Yuppers i was making my way thru that narrow narrow walkway, late and rushing. And i really think that the town planners or whatever you call the people that decide which direction large masses of people should head towards, i think they should consider some kind of road marking system there. We could have one lane called the "
plenty-of-time-to-kill" lane. Primarily for people shopping alone with plenty of time, generally no shopping direction or goal, walking at pace that will allow them to fully appreciate window displays and then decide if it would be worth their while to slowly glide into the shop with both hands firmly tucked into their pants pockets. This lane should be placed nearest to the shops and their respective display windows. Next, we have a "
we-r-so-darn-late" express lane for people like
moi where really need to walk fast, pay no attention to the shops and not be blocked by pockets of people gliding along slowly with their hands firmly tucked into their pant pockets. And the author fully notes that these people totally deserve their saturday afternoon leisure stroll in the most populated part of singapore but she just wishes that they would not form a defence line and block the entire road while gliding! it is not polite and frankly rather irritating for those of us with a need for speed! And lastly we'll need the
temporary stop zone, for people who are smsing, people with prams waiting for the "plenty of time to kill" people who have answered the call of the window display, people who really like to stop in the middle of VERY crowded place in the middle of streams of people, just to talk, gossip, act like a statues or look like there ended up somewhere they didn't plan to be at like "hmm i though i supposed to meet ah-huat at kopi tiam why come i now at orchard..hmmm bo ko leng leh" yup there are such strange bewildered people just stationary at certain areas in Orchard. They DO exist!
Hhhh'anyway i finally found my darling at Zara.. i hesitated stepping in.. i knew i shouldn't have. especially when i'm currently at my "i'm so fugly" mood. The place was crawling with trendy tai tais, trendy and cash rich japanese tourists and size 2 stick figures browsing thru the racks. Urgh. i feel so outta place at places like this i don;t belonging and its simply hard to be at a place where you know that once you spot something you like, its probably
(a) too small (no double digit sizes)
(b) too expensive (multiple digits on price tags)
(c) all of the above
Denise didn;t buy much today only some stuff needed to kick start my " i'm-so-darn-serious-abt-losing-weight" regime. Btw if you see me, please tell me to
(a) Not drink any can drinks or syrup drinks! only H-2-O!
(b) keeping snacking to a minimum. only allowed when battling going into comatose mode during uninspiring lectures
(c) Drink more water! more more more!
Thanks kew and goods nite.
