  Idle fever.
The laptop's still stuck in the gadget hospital. I'm still suffering from gadget-withdrawal plus competing with the rest of the family to use the desktop is really not fun. The thing is, ever since i've gotten my own laptop, the rest of them have kinda worked out a unspoken unwritten computer usage time table. So now that i'm back to compete for computer time, well lets just say that we sometimes have to remind ourselves that "thou shalt not kill" is a very important comandment! So i have a very small window of opportunity to gain internet time, when the 3 of them are occupied at the same time - dad's watching world cup while the sis is *cough*pretendin*cough* i mean doing homework and while the mother is preparing for bed. This window starts 10-ish and lasts till someone comes and grumbles.

Now that you realise how ardous it has been for me to come online and blog, you should realise how really blessed you are to be reading this entry! *grinZ* ok i geddit stop the vomit-inducing self praise....

Moving on, caught singapore idol today, the wildcard round. I realised a couple of things
1. Daniel Ong is quite redundant as a host isn't he? Is he there to make sure that the constestants are under constant adult supervision and not left alone in the red room? Is he there because Gurmit Singh has bad time management and cannot split his tv time properly between being on stage and with the other contestants? Don't they learn from other people's mistakes? American Idol had 2 hosts in the season1 tOo and i'm sure they figured one overly-styled-bleached-hair-metrosexual guy was enough to carry the show. Hence we have ONE ryan seacrest! point proven.

2. As much as i love Jacintha as a singer, i just cannot make sense of some of her comments. The contestant sings, Dick Lee says something then Florence usually concurs then Jacintha mumbles some one liner which has the audience silenced because they have no idea if it was a praise then the audience will just abruptly break into cheer as if to say "whatever la just cheer to make people believe it was a good thing!" Strange............

3. Ken Lim has become some wise sage of pop-idolism. He's so cocky, most of the time just plain rude and the stinging remarks come out of his stony face in such a matter-of-a-factly manner that it is as though he really believes that he knows the music industry inside and out. My question is, Who died and made him Singapore Idol GURU? huh? who? WhOoo????

I love my country. I have pride in my nation. I do. But erm... lets be adults and face this issue like grown ups ok? our contestants have nothing compared to the ones in american idol. I mean, i think they would never even make it through the audition round. Sigh. Jia You la Singapore.. lets make this our goal..to produce better singers. IT is ATTAINABLe... just like Singapore's world cup goal..2010... *muffled laughter*

  Bring out the popcorn!
Since i've been back from Bintan with da ladies, i've been gorging myself. Seriously. So Monika and i decided to eat something healthy or seemingly healthy and so we went back to school to eat discounted Subway and of course get my lap top repaired. The original plan was to head over to bukit timah hill after that to do some exercise but then we got sidetracked by popcorns, ice lemon tea and a really cheesy romantic comedy - Just my luck. In the words of my very irritated mother upon hearing about our change of plans " HUH You supposed to be CLIMBING become RECLINING arh tsk Haiyo!" But i must say it was a pretty good 2 hours of mindless humour in fact our dearest Monika was laughing so damn loudly that people were turning and laughing at her laughing...Geez.. i have gotta be careful who i bring to public places nowadays.

Jurong Point never ever ever screen their movies on time so after 15 minutes of trailers, here a list of movies that i absolutely have to catch:

yeah-uh.

  SYSTEM FAILURE.
H'okay guys heres the scoop. When i returned from FOC, my lap top crashed on me and I couldn't fix it cause I went to Bintan. Now i'm back, but my social calendar is SO FULL that i can probably only go down to get it fixed on monday which means i'm probably not gonna be online very often. This totally sucks cause the house comp just got repaired only and its missing tons of programs plus the key board feels funny. I MISS MY LAP TOP. Now that i'm competing with 3 other people for use of this desktop, i'm gonna have to save my storytelling for another day. Ciao~!

  Ah BENG to the rescue
ok guess who i managed to drag with me out to dinner today. ok not exactly out but we went to rail mall to get some roti john and prata. yes my dearest ah beng. he has been a hermit for the past week because the lift at his block broke down and he is simply too lazy to climb 8 flights of stairs. "Think of the poor HDB flat people when their lift breaks down" that was my feeble attempt to trick the self proclaimed Human-Sloth into coming outta his house and then today, my lift broke down!! and then something about having someone share the bad luck made it worth his while to come out of his bat cave to have dinner with me. "wah we all damn suay hor maybe should try like those tv show walk over the pot of fire." *Denise stares*

We started talking about movies. Movie addicts thats what we both are..suckers for good movies. I told him i was getting sick and tired of the whole da vinci code saga.

You know what i think singaporeans lack? I think we lack sensitivity and in the case of the people who decided it would be okay to paste a poster for the davinci code movie with the image of Jesus on it, ON THE FLOOR for people to step on at orchard mrt.. for those people who decided that doing that would be okay, i think that they not only lacked sensitivity, they LACK BRAINS, COMMON SENSE and they lacked simple UNDERSTANDING. Would you paste a picture of your grandma, the president or even Mr Lee Kuan Yew on the floor for the hordes of people to step on even if it were for promotional purposes? You can argue all you want, you may even think we are over-reacting but i ask you, is that the only way you can go about promoting the movie?? cant you just paste it on the walls just so that we wouldn't even have the chance to over react?? Make better use of the grey matter in between your ears and then nobody will have to feel offended however sensitive they are.

The catholics aren't protesting in the streets with banners and posters and burning pictures of Dan Brown, not because we are cowards, not because we do not stand up for our faith. It is because we recognise that if people watch it as fiction, then really its ok. It is FICTION. In fact, after you watch the movie and read the book, QUESTION what you read! You live in Singapore! most of you are educated enough to realise the simple fact that just because there is enough controvesy surrounding it DOES NOT MEAN it is absolutely irrefutable!!! PLEASE LA i'm not asking you to take my side, I'm pleading for you to be fair, to make an educated decision, to question, to give us a chance to explain, I am asking you not to be naive enough to believe that one man and one book holds all the truth. If you think that just because you read the book, you have enough "FACTS" to discredit MY FAITH and the entire foundation it is built upon, then its only a reflection of how shallow you are as a human being and i feel so sorry for you.

I dont mean to be a bitch and blow up here, but i've been holding it in for a while and it irritates me when people watch it solely because of the controversy, not bothering to educate themselves first before buying all that dan brown has to say. Better still, talk about it in front of me, remarking aloud that the stuff in the show seems very believable, maybe its true, FORGET that I am catholic and that it is terribly insulting that you have made a conclusion about my entire religion being a LIE all based upon a 2hr MOVIE! I'm gonna watch Herbie reloaded and CONCLUDE THAT ALL CARS CAN TALK!!!! TSK.

At this point, i'm so pissed off i can hardly finish my roti john and Ah-beng is just laughing because he's seen me blow up so many times. " I think you should go be a politician like that Sylvia Lim man you so passionate when you bitch sia" we continue talking about things that are ABSOLUTELY LAUGHABLE like that silly NUS business school ad!! I think it is also rather insulting, because it seems to insinuate that a school is only credible when ang mohs think highly of it! even if that was not their wish to portray, the advert really sucks la, no creativity not nearly as impressive as the SMU ads, i must say they've really managed to boost their image with a very sucessful advertising and promotional campaign. NUS... why like that???

At this point, this cab passes by with the advert for Dog food.. guess what flavour - UNAGI AND SEAWEED. and ah beng remarks SO LOUDLY "wah dog like sushi MEH?" that the guys on the tables beside us start laughing tOo. *paisey*

then we head to videoezy for the movie and cold storage for the snacks. We saw my best friend's wedding on the shelf and ah-beng remarked that we should make a similar pact to marry each other if we;re still single by the time we are 40 i told him i'd be seriously short changing myself but agreed anyway :) LOL.

I love movie nights. I love laughing out loud so that the whole condo knows i'm watching comedy anyway, soon they will have no qualms about letting me know when someone scores a goal during the world cup. We are an interactive neighbourhood!!

retreating because i don't seem to be advancing
just returned from annual retreat. It was absolutely free-ing to see all our efforts in planning slowly play out. The fellowship, renewed bonds, strengthened relationships, recharged spirits, new revelations, the crazy videos, the mad sing-a-louds, the silly games, the action songs, the girls invading the guy's toilet, the cold showers, sudden 'black-outs', the struggle to stay awake to write warm fuzzies, the over-feeding of pius, the walks, the dances, the amazement over the mashed potato conversions, the conversations with God... i guess all these made all our efforts in planning worth it. This group of people made it the most special retreat for me personally. Its only the second time i cried while sharing, overwhelmed with the spirit. It was strange, i never saw it coming, but when the feeling came, there was no stopping it.. i couldn't go on sharing.. and it wasn't a sadness kind of cry.. it was a joyful kind of cry, like for that 2 minutes i was basking in His infinite, unconditional love, a feeling so complex, so pure and so good that my body did not know how to react except to let the tears flow like some kind of release from all that love that was stiring me from the inside. There were certain things i've been praying for before this retreat and in these 3 days, he answered all of my greatest wants. They are a tad bit too personal to share here but we can always talk about it next CG kay :)

heres our ode to the movies, the one above is our davinci code tribute and our charlie's angels tribute- if you can even bring yourself to call it that!

Note to BEN-- those videos better not make it to youtube arh or else blood will be shed!!!!!!!
